Description of the meeting
Cuba 21-25.11.2022: : 5 short-term exchange of groups of students and teachers, Escola Profissional e Cuba, "Forgotten traditional objects and occupations ".
Participants: 17 foreign students and 11 teachers, hosts: leader, teachers, school director of the 15 students of the project group in Cuba, owners and employees of regional companies, museums, restaurants, hotel; representatives of educational authorities, teachers of local schools in Cuba.

After being welcomed by the host school and educational authorities in the city at the Cuba Municipal Library, delegations from 6 schools went to the school to give presentations about forgotten professions in their regions. We visited the winery in Rocim, learning about the wine-making process. Pupils from a Portuguese school presented traditional songs and showed off their school. We visited the Christopher Columbus Museum /Cristovao Colon and the Fialho Writer's Museum.
- We visited the Alentejo region: the town of Viana do Alentejo. We took part in pottery workshops, painting on pots and in a forge, learning about the stages of making cattle bells. We visited 2 towns on the Unesco World Heritage List: Monsaraz and Évora.
- We visited the ancient town of Mértola, learning about its history, tradition and multiculturalism (Casa Romana, Forja do Ferreiro, Torre de Menagem, Oficina de Tecelagem). We learned about the history and monuments of the city of Beja (Old Castle, Manuelina Window, Praca da Republica). The teachers attended a meeting with education representatives and school teachers in Cuba. We saw a Portuguese song show and a dance by students from Mozambique. We tasted wine.
- Excursion to Lisbon: we visited the Museum of Popular Art and the exhibition of basketry; walking and viewing: Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Pastéis de Belém, Torre de Belém, Mosteiros do Jerónimos, Pombalina.
- Pupils of the school prepared an exhibition presenting old professions and forgotten objects; there were music (demonstration of old guitars), sports and braiding workshops, we watched stalls presenting regional cuisine, culture.
Students from 6 schools gave presentations about forgotten objects. The teachers held a meeting to sum up the project. In the evening there was a gala dinner in a regional tavern with invited guests and the presentation of certificates to the exchange participants.
Results: Presentation on 2 topics 1. Forgotten professions 2. Forgotten objects; evaluation forms, website.
Methodology: group work, cultural workshops, meetings in museums, Google Forms, visits to local workshops and monuments, project meetings.
We learned about traditional and regional cuisine by trying: bacalhau, açorda, shark soup, lamb, desserts.
How did the participation in this activity benefit the involved participants?
HOST SCHOOL
Establishing international cooperation; improving managerial, organisational competences; strengthening cooperation with local institutions/authorities in Cuba and Beja; creating a positive image of the school in the community and education in a European dimension.
The school prepared events: a welcome reception in the municipal library, the opening of the new student accommodation, a meeting with the educational authorities and teachers in Cuba combined with traditional customs: a song and dance show, wine and Portuguese food tasting, music and dances from the Alentejo region.
TEACHERS
To establish regional and international cooperation, exchange good practices, work on project results, exchange teaching techniques in regional education; get to know the educational offer of Escola Profissional de Cuba, make new contacts.

Learning about the Alentejo region in Portugal:
regional dishes:
gözleme(Turkish pancake), edible herbs, Aegean style appetizers, cold starters, helva, Aegean desserts (kalburabastı, baklava), cheese, figs, flatbread with sesame seed paste, several types of Turkish delight, manti, aygar, Turkish tea, Turkish coffee, lokum, helva, baklava; meze; kofte. Meals were prepared for the participants with utmost care and attention.
customs: Portuguese songs from the Alentejo region, the Christopher Columbus Museum/ Cristovao Colon, the Fialho Writer's Museum, workshops on basketry, weaving, painting and making pottery, making bells for cattle.
* exploration of characteristic, historical and cultural sites of the region: Mertola, Beja, Cuba, Monsaraz, Evora, Viana do Alentejo; tour of Lisbon.
Developing competences:
