Technical High School is a technical high schools in Buzau with 53 teachers and 806 students in 33 classes. It is the only high school that is training in all 3 profiles: services, technical, natural resources and environmental protection in various qualifications: economic, confectioners, bakers, transportation, mechatronics, car mechanic, computing, ecology and environmental quality (liceultehnicbuzau.ro). Approximately 82% of our students are from rural areas, 50 students are accommodated in our school dorms, 6 pupils are declared Roma and 2 pupils are from Moldova, while two pupils have a certificate for special educational needs. Over 85% of students come from families with an income below 65€/family member, 20% are in the High School Money Program, their monthly income is under 150ron/family member, and over 40% of students have a parent working abroad. The unfavourable background of most of our students generates difficult situations: they become withdrawn and don’t socialize as much. They don’t always have their family members close to them in order to teach them cultural and social values or to emphasize their national identity.
We have a rich European experience: 3 Comenius partnerships, Leonardo IVT, 4 Erasmus + Vet Learner and staff mobility. We have also implemented local activities: presentations, visits of/to local representatives to try to solve the problem of cultural awareness. Many of our students come from unprivileged environments and are lacking in self-confidence, which can be enhanced by focusing on social and cultural activities. As leaders we must strive to utilize every opportunity available to us to reinforce the values and beliefs that we hold dear. Tradition contributes to a sense of comfort and belonging. It brings families together and enables people to connect and tie lasting friendships. Thanks to the this project we would be able to work with experienced partners and create networks, involve local authorities, show the richness of our region, teach students cultural values, regional music and dance. We can offer our own experience and help our partners discover Romanian old traditions. In some villages of Buzau area you can find men and women who have inherited the taste for beautiful simple things and who pass their skills on to the next generation. One can see weaving in goat hair, egg painting, piper making and playing, pottery, wood craft, traditional Romanian sewings made by craftswomen, wheelwrights in villages like Beceni, Vintilă Vodă, Săruleşti, Mânzăleşti, Mărgăriteşti. Also our input on traditional dances and Balkan folklore is of great value.
